we wrote an amazing song about birmingham once. ask me about it the next time you see me. the workplay theatre is a cavernous space, divided into two venues. while neko soundchecked in the big space, a band by the name of total a$$ets (a band comprised of accountants, I believe) soundchecked their set of cover songs in the smaller one. if you sat in the hallway between the two rooms, you could hear both at the same time, but I wouldn’t recommend it. our set was a little rough due to sound difficulties; namely, the monitor guy. I’m not a particularly paranoid, or even picky, on-stage musician, but this was flat out ridiculous. I thought about punching him in the balls when I saw him by the bar later, but I (begrudgingly) remained an adult. when we got back to the hotel that night, we found a pile of emergen-cs that neko had left us. she’s awful sweet.
