ah, the national. we were first here a few months ago, with okkervil river and black joe lewis and the honeybears. a new-ish venue, they have the green room situation figured out better than most places I’ve played. there’s a rec room with a pool table, big flat-screen tvs in both green rooms, and the most kickass of all: a damned hot tub and sauna in the back of the main green room. for reals. I was soundly beaten at pool by neko’s pedal steel player jon rauhouse, and then had a most deserved hot tub soak after a show with a great crowd but a tweaker for a sound guy. unc won the national championship, much to eric’s delight. jon told me a story about showing up at a party when he was much younger where there were people trying to tape back on the foot of a pet skunk. I just left it at that.
